The nature of musical elements, looking at ways they can be used and drawing on examples from a range of musical styles. This course builds on concepts learned in MUSI 101, extending beyond the world of diatonic harmony into modes and the expressive realm of chromaticism. This paper also begins to explore the nature of musical organisation and coherence, looking at a wide range of musical examples from both Western art music (classical) and contemporary (rock) music traditions.
