Dance Science in Practice

Tutor(s): Claire Farmer
Assessment: coursework – group presentation (10 min.) [50%], contextual document (2000 words) [50%] [an overall pass is required, but both components must be attempted]

Dance Science in Practice builds on foundations laid in the first year practical modules where students learn important concepts and theories about training in a safe and effective way. It is imperative that students have an understanding of how best to prevent injury and care for their bodies and minds throughout their dance career. A further understanding of theory and research within the Dance Science field will help students to not only apply this work to their own dance practice, but also apply what they are learning to other dance-specific situations. For a dance teacher, an understanding of dance science theory and research is invaluable as they become responsible for other dancers and their wellbeing in the studio.
