This course involves eight 3.5 hour training courses throughout the semester, culminating in an exam. There is an extra course fee of $1,200 to enroll.
If you pass the exam at the end of the course, you will be presented with an official BADC Standard qualification stage combat certificate. The course does not come with an academic transcript or academic credit, this is entirely a professional certification.
British Academy of Dramatic Combat (BADC) certifications are recognized by Equity, Spotlight, and internationally throughout the industry. The BADC Standard qualification is the fundamental building block of all stage combat training, and accepted as the industry standard level of training expected of professional actors. The aim of the Standard course is to introduce the student to a range of armed and unarmed techniques intended to establish a coherent skill-set which is easily transferable to the range of weapon styles and performance demands that the student may encounter as a professional actor. To this end, the Standard course has two objectives. Firstly, introducing a range of safety principles which apply consistently throughout all forms of dramatic combat, and secondly, combining an acceptable level of technical competence with the level of commitment and intention required to perform a choreographed sequence convincingly in a performance context.
