Assessment: portfolio (2500 words) [80%], participation [20%]
This module provides opportunities for students to gain knowledge about, develop skills in, and engage with the practical exploration of technical skills of theatre-making. Students will work with a technical lecturer to gain practical skills in technical theatre to include lighting, sound, scenic design and construction, prop construction, and stage management. There may also be a focus on digital media technologies. The module is comprised of workshops through which students learn to operate and think creatively about technical equipment/systems, to plan and execute Technical projects in support of theatre production within the department and across programmes and to operate equipment and run rehearsals and shows . The skills developed in this module underpin Technical Theatre II and the module complements the Theatre Workshop I module to introduce health and safety issues around the technical apparatus of each segment.
The module is designed to address the programme’s aims, learning outcomes and rationales toward building practical skills to produce work appropriate to the context of contemporary professional theatre-making, to engage with contemporary technologies, and to prepare them for graduate employment.
