Introduction to Screenwriting

The module is designed to give students the opportunity to develop an understanding of the skills, processes and conventions of writing for film and television – from initial idea to final script – to analyse the structural, thematic and dramatic elements and conventions of existing scripts and to apply these skills and knowledge both in critical analysis of screenplays and in the writing of an original short screenplay.
It offers an entry-point to the craft under the assumption that participants have never written a professional-format screenplay before, and – using proprietary software – includes basic concepts of the craft such as formatting, tips, techniques and methodologies, and includes two main methods of study.
