Indigenous Representation and Cinema(s)
Cinema’s role in colonisation; the representation and stereotyping of minorities, specifically indigenous minorities; and discussion of native/indigenous peoples’ portrayals of themselves. The course is run via a participatory structure, focusing on group work, interactive learning and discussion.
A student-chosen long paper and a final presentation are included in the assessments. We watch films by Indigenous Australian, Māori, Pacific Islander and Native American directors.
