Documentary Production

This module provides a critical grounding in digital documentary production, appropriate to practices that have emerged in recent years. Working in groups, students build on the practical and creative skills gained in first year modules, to produce a researched and considered work of 8-10 minutes. Students are encouraged to investigate the gamut of documentary styles rather than imitating standard broadcast documentary modes.
The module aims to encourage and support students in researching and producing work that ranges across the breadth of documentary practice, such as the lyrical, poetic, impressionistic, observational, participatory, character-based, and personal; and to avoid a methodology revolving around formal interviews to camera and conventional voice-over commentary.
