Contemporary Devising Strategies

The module will offer an introduction to the processes of devising. It will enable students to investigate and explore, in theory and practice, a range of approaches and methodologies of devising. Students will be introduced to the work of a range of practitioners and theatre companies who utilise devising in their creative process, in order to examine strategies and their potential for generating, creating and developing performance work. The syllabus will enable students to investigate the ways in which devising draws upon a range of contemporary performance making – including live art, physical theatre, choreography, site specific, performance, performance art, installation, visual arts, new media, new writing.
