Art Music Since 1900

The analytical and historical study of Western art music since 1900, with consideration of new compositional styles and cultural change. This paper covers the major trends in composition, including Impressionism, Expressionism, Neoclassicism, Serialism and Minimalism. The challenges presented by 20th-century music are explored, and a week on New Zealand music is also included.
