My Experience at RADA

Emily Rice participated in PAA’s RADA Summer Training intensive in the Summer of 2015.  She is from Grass Valley, California and studies Theatre Arts with a concentration in Acting and a Minor in Music at Sonoma State University.

During my time in London in August of 2015 I learned even more than I thought I could! Not only did I gain knowledge and training as far as acting and performance are concerned, but I also discovered a considerable amount about myself. I walked the streets of a city that I had loved forever and felt at home. And I made friends and connections with people that I never would’ve met if not for Performing Arts Abroad and RADA.

While in London I grew as an actress both in the classroom at RADA and through the shows I was able to see both with PAA and on my own. I saw a play or musical 7 out of the 8 nights that I was there, and the opportunity to see amazing theatre is probably the thing I will remember most about my trip.

Kinky Boots, Much Ado About Nothing, War Horse, As You Like It, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime are just some of the shows I had the pleasure of seeing, and it was so amazing to leave the classroom at RADA and notice the things I had learned in the theatre I watched that night.

Personally, I have always wanted to explore the world and see history and art for myself. As a fan of all forms of art, traveling to London and RADA through Performing Arts Abroad provided me with all that my little artist’s heart desired.

I went the the National Gallery and the British Museum, toured the South Bank and the Tate Modern, I learned the proper pronunciation of certain street names while riding the tube with the locals.

I will never forget my experience in RADA and PAA’s summer program, and I am planning a trip back to London through Performing Arts Abraod and CA Sonoma State University for Summer 2017!
